PRIORITIES

A clear agenda for Humboldt Bay, its watersheds, and the communities that depend on them.

WHAT THIS CAMPAIGN STANDS FOR

Chris Honar is running on a straightforward platform: restore the bay, support working families, and make sure every dollar of public investment goes to work for the people of this community. Here's what that looks like in practice.

01

RESTORE HUMBOLDT BAY & ITS WATERSHEDS

Humboldt Bay is one of California's most ecologically significant estuaries — and it needs serious attention. Chris will prioritize watershed restoration, habitat enhancement, and water quality improvements that benefit both the environment and the local economy. Drawing on years of hands-on restoration work with the Mattole Restoration Council, Chris knows what it takes to get results on the ground.

02

EXPAND RECREATIONAL ACCESS

The bay belongs to everyone. Chris will work to expand public access to the waterfront — more boat launches, better trails, improved facilities — so that residents and visitors alike can enjoy what makes Humboldt Bay special. Recreational access also drives local economic activity, supporting businesses, tourism, and jobs.

03

INVEST IN LOCAL WORKERS & BUSINESSES

Public investments should create local jobs and support local businesses. Chris will push for procurement and contracting policies that keep Harbor District dollars circulating in our community — not flowing out to distant contractors. Working families deserve to benefit directly from the projects their tax dollars fund.

04

TRANSPARENT, ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNANCE

The Harbor District should be a model of open, responsive government. Chris will hold public meetings that are genuinely accessible, publish clear financial reporting, and make sure community members have a real voice in decisions that affect them. Accountability isn't optional — it's the job.

05

SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

A healthy bay and a healthy economy go hand in hand. Chris supports development that creates lasting value for the community — maritime industry, aquaculture, clean energy, and tourism — while protecting the natural resources that make Humboldt Bay worth investing in. We don't have to choose between prosperity and stewardship.
